Act II Favorites

Act II, Scene III

JESSICA

I am sorry thou wilt leave my father so:

Our house is hell, and thou, a merry devil,

Didst rob it of some taste of tediousness.

But fare thee well, there is a ducat for thee:

And, Launcelot, soon at supper shalt thou see

Lorenzo, who is thy new master’s guest:

Give him this letter; do it secretly;

And so farewell: I would not have my father

See me in talk with thee.

This is the part that shocked me when I read Act II, I was kind of shocked that Jessica dared to just leave with Lancelot and leave his father a letter. I am surprised she would disobey her father’s words and run off with another man. In addition, she stole her father’s money and left, just leaving a letter behind. If it was in present day, I don’t think these kind of things will happen as often.

I think a person’s manner and attitude towards things are worthy of my admiration. For me, people that are honest and treat everybody the same is considered a good person. In addition, people who does volunteered work and work together as a group are even better. I think that the direct of “Sharkwater”, Rob Stewart is a great and admirable person because of how brave he is to film the illegal things that people do. From doing that he saves lots of sharks not only for himself but also for the world because one film that he makes might affect a lot of other people throughout the world. I admire his braveness to sneak back in to the countries and film the cruel killing of sharks even when he is in danger himself.

I think good people can have majors because no one can be perfect, every once in a while, even the good people can do something wrong or bad. Antonio’s personality would be a great example, he treats Bassanio and his other friends very nicely, he lends money to Bassanio when he needs it. On the other hand, he discriminates against Jews which kind of made him a bad person as he treats Shylock badly.

Act 1, Scene III

SHYLOCK

This kindness will I show.

Go with me to a notary, seal me there

Your single bond; and, in a merry sport,

If you repay me not on such a day,

In such a place, such sum or sums as are

Express’d in the condition, let the forfeit

Be nominated for an equal pound

Of your fair flesh, to be cut off and taken

In what part of your body pleaseth me.

This is the part I liked the most because it was surprising how much Shylock hated Antonio. This shows the hatred between the Jew and the Christian because it’s a matter of life and death just for a bond. I think it’s very serious as Antonio is borrowing the money for Bassanio but yet he is the one who is being responsible for the consequences.

I think I am a all rounder but mostly choleric as I am easily irritated and I have a really bad temper. I am also kind of a melancholic because I get sad very easily and i reflect to myself and think of what I have done to get that result. When I am happy, I am very optimistic and cheerful but most of the time and very depressed and down because of things that happen all the time. Also, I am kind of like a Phlegmatic as I am a very emotional person and I care about how other people think all the time. So overall, I think I am a cheerful person when I am happy, but also someone that get angry very easily when irritated.

The story is set in a neighborhood in Maycomb, Alabama. The story is set in the 1930s, and the mood is very happy and joyful.

After reading the first 3 chapters of the book, I found out that it’s a very interesting book, it creates a lot of suspense making me want to read on. The book is very meaningful, it also has a lot of interesting themes.
